Quarter Two. Real Impact, Real Results.

Rugby For Life: Growing Stronger in Q2 2025

Kia ora,

As we wrap up the second quarter of 2025, the heartbeat of community sport is stronger than ever. Across Rugby For Life clubs, the drive to uplift tamariki, rangatahi and whānau continues to gather focus, energy and purpose.

From Hikurangi to Otamatea, our clubs are doing more than playing rugby — they’re leading change. Whether it’s supporting wāhine new to the game, renovating clubrooms with local fundraising, or creating space for rangatahi to find their voice, this quarter has been a reflection of what communities can achieve when they lead from the ground up.

Q2 2025 By the Numbers

Here’s a glimpse into the impact made between April and June:

  • Secured funding to continue supporting club coordinators and programme delivery
  • More than 500 tamariki and rangatahi involved in club-led initiatives
  • $31,000 raised through local fundraising
  • 65 percent Māori participation across all Rugby For Life programmes
  • Otamatea Hawks Women’s team thriving, with 41 wāhine registered — more than half new to rugby
  • Youth leadership and mentoring pathways expanded with coaching clinics and peer support
  • Community events in full force, including Matariki hīkoi, heritage celebrations and regional finals

These numbers are powerful, but it’s the people behind them who carry the real meaning. Young leaders stepping up. Whānau creating safe spaces. Clubs transforming into places of belonging, pride and support.

Pride On and Off the Field

The results of this quarter show what's possible when people work together for something bigger. Rugby is no longer just a sport — it's a vehicle for social good. It provides structure, identity and opportunity for those who need it most.

From leadership groups to kai tables, this is grassroots sport creating deeper connections and lasting change.
